Kelly R. Phelps

Kelly is a lifelong resident of Southern Illinois. He was born and raised in Eldorado, Illinois. After graduating from Eldorado High School, he continued his post-secondary education at Southeastern Illinois College and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Kelly enrolled in law school at Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois and graduated in 1995 with his law degree.

Kelly started trying jury trials soon after obtaining his law degree. He began his practice at a law firm in Marion, Illinois, sharpening his trial skills and focusing his practice on personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. In 2002, Kelly moved his practice to his home county, Saline County, Illinois. He joined this firm in 2005 and became a partner in 2008.

During his legal career, Kelly has focused his efforts on personal injury, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation cases. Although he has both prosecuted and defended cases, he is most drawn to the cases where he represents the underdog. He has often taken cases that other attorneys have rejected and through hard work, tenacity and perseverance, achieved successful results. Kelly recently settled a case for more than $1 million, which was a case that another attorney had turned down. He has tried more than 50 cases to verdict in State and Federal courts throughout Illinois, including Cook County. He has argued cases before the Federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, Illinois Appellate Court, and the Illinois Supreme Court. He has tried over 200 workers’ compensation cases before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Kelly is married and has 2 adult children. When he is not trying cases, he enjoys traveling, reading, music, hiking, and entertaining. Kelly serves on the board of directors for his local community hospital.
