Kelly enrolled in law school at Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois and graduated in 1995 with his law degree.
Kelly started trying jury trials soon after obtaining his law degree. He began his practice at a law firm in Marion, Illinois, sharpening his trial skills and focusing his practice on personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. In 2002, Kelly moved his practice to his home county, Saline County, Illinois. He joined this firm in 2005 and became a partner in 2008.
In the two decades that Kelly has practiced law, he has focused his efforts on personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. Although he has both prosecuted and defended cases, he is most drawn to the cases where he represents the underdog. He has often taken cases that other attorneys have rejected and through hard work, tenacity and perseverance, achieved successful results. He has tried more than 30 cases to verdict in State and Federal courts throughout Illinois, including Cook County. He has argued cases before the Federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, Illinois Appellate Court, and the Illinois Supreme Court. He has tried over 200 workers’ compensation cases before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.
Kelly is married and has 2 children and 5 dogs. When he is not trying cases, he enjoys traveling, reading, music, and hanging out with his family and friends. Kelly teaches Sunday School at the church his younger brother pastors.
